Our Standard Saver travel insurance policy provide access to our Australian based Emergency Assistance hotline with 24/7 support.*

Depending on your situation, Fast Cover’s Emergency Medical Assistance team may be able to assist you during unexpected medical emergencies overseas by:

  • Locating and arranging overseas medical treatment or hospital admission

  • Coordinating approved medical evacuation or repatriation

  • Providing guidance on accessing local medical support services.*

An unexpected trip to the hospital overseas could be costly. If you break a bone in the US, or need surgery in Japan, Fast Cover may be able to help with Overseas Emergency Medical and Hospital Expenses in some circumstances which are covered under your Standard Saver policy.*

Fast Cover’s Standard Saver policy is available to provide protection against the financial burden of reasonable overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses from unexpected illness or injuries.*

If you become seriously sick or injured while overseas, having access to emergency medical care can make a huge difference. Fast Cover’s standard travel insurance may be able to help with the cost of getting you to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment or even flying you back to Australia, in circumstances covered under your policy.*

Our Standard Saver policy is available to provide cover for your reasonable additional accommodation and travel expenses, medical transfer, evacuation or repatriation if you must be transported to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment or be brought back to Australia with appropriate medical supervision. The medical transfer, evacuation or repatriation must first be approved by Fast Cover.*

Cancelled holidays can be both disappointing and expensive, especially if you have paid for flights, accommodation, or tours. If you become unexpectedly ill, injured, or experience another event under your policy that forces you to cancel your trip, Fast Cover’s Trip Cancellation Expenses benefit may reimburse the non-refundable costs you’ve already paid.*

Standard Saver travel insurance can be purchased up to 12 months before your departure date, allowing you to cover pre-paid trip costs even before you book your flights or accommodation. This flexibility may help reduce the impact of unexpected events that may affect your travel plans before you leave Australia.*

Sometimes, even after your trip begins, unexpected events can disrupt your plans. Unforeseen events like natural disaster and strikes can cause your scheduled or connecting transport to be cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted.

Fast Cover’s Trip Disruption Expenses benefit may cover reasonable additional travel and accommodation expenses you incur while you’re still on your trip if the disruption occurs for reasons covered under your policy.*

Expenses must be unrecoverable from another source, and the event must be one that began after your Certificate of Insurance was issued. Full details, including conditions and exclusions, are outlined in the PDS.*

When your luggage goes missing or valuable personal items are damaged or stolen overseas, it can cause inconvenience and additional costs. Our Standard Saver travel insurance policy may include cover for your luggage and personal items such as laptops, cameras, and phones if they are lost, stolen or accidentally damaged in situations covered under your policy.*

Benefit limits and sub-limits apply to how much can be claimed for each item, and conditions set out when and how cover applies.*

Sudden dental pain or an accidental tooth injury can quickly disrupt your trip. Fast Cover’s Standard Saver policy may cover the cost of emergency dental treatment if you suffer acute pain or damage to your sound and natural teeth while overseas.*

Sometimes travel-related incidents may involve other people as well as yourself. At Fast Cover, the Personal Liability benefit is available to provide cover for legal claims made against you for the payment of compensation in respect of:

  • Someone else’s death or injury, and/

  • The physical loss of, or damage to, someone else’s property.

This applies where the loss, injury, or damage is caused by an accident or a series of accidents attributable to one source or originating cause that occurs during your trip.

Your reasonable legal expenses, up to the limits set out in the benefit summary in our PDS, may also be covered for settling or defending on the above legal claims made against you, where the claim is covered by the policy.*

It is important to understand that cover for personal liability does not apply in every situation and general exclusions apply. For example, personal liability does not cover unlawful activities or the use of certain vehicles. Always refer to the PDS for full details of what is and isn’t covered, as well as the limits and sub-limits that apply.*

Planning a road trip on your holiday? Whether you’re hiring a small car to explore local towns or renting a campervan for an adventure through New Zealand, rental vehicles are a popular way to travel, but they often come with a high insurance excess if something goes wrong.

If your rental vehicle is in an accident, damaged or stolen during your trip overseas, Fast Cover’s Standard Saver policy can provide reasonable additional cover of up to $8,000 for the rental vehicle excess component of your rental vehicle insurance with your car hire company overseas, when you pay an additional premium.*

The rental vehicle excess benefit applies to:

  • Sedan, hatchback, or station wagon

If your travel plans include cruising, you can choose to add cruise cover to your Standard Saver travel insurance policy for additional cover in case of unexpected emergencies on-board the cruise ship and during onshore excursions where no support or reimbursement is provided by the cruise company or any other entity for these emergencies.*

If you are travelling on a cruise ship and wish to be covered for it, you must specify cruise cover at the time of purchase based on your destination and length of your cruise trip:

  • If you are travelling within Australian waters, the New Zealand or the South Pacific region for 1 night or more

  • If you are travelling on a cruise within Asia, Europe or Worldwide regions for 4 nights or more

By adding this option, your existing Standard Saver travel insurance benefits will extend to when you’re on a cruise. This may provide cover for unexpected emergencies on-board the cruise ship where no support or reimbursement is provided by the cruise company.*

For more details, visit our page on travel insurance for cruises and read our PDS for terms and conditions of cover for travelling on cruise ships.

If your holiday includes skiing, snowboarding, or other snow sports, it’s important to understand that these activities are not covered under our Standard Saver travel insurance policy.

If you’re planning to ski or snowboard overseas, answer yes to ‘Will you be doing any snowsports?’ during your quote application. This gives you the option to purchase a “Snow Sports Plus” policy which can provide cover for medical expenses and costs associated with covered snow sports overseas.^

Below are some examples of things that may be covered in your snow sports benefits:

  • loss or theft of, or accidental damage to snow sports equipment

  • for hiring replacement snow sports equipment that is necessary to continue with your original itinerary if snow sports equipment owned by you has been misdirected or delayed for a period of more than 24-hours, or has been accidentally damaged, lost or stolen during your trip

  • if you are injured or become sick during your trip and are unable to utilise the full duration of your pre-booked and pre-paid lift passes, snow sports equipment hire, or lessons, we will reimburse you the percentage amount of the unused portion for each insured person

  • the cost of transport and lift passes at an alternate ski resort

The Snow Sports Plus policy is available at an additional premium for Aussie travellers aged 69 and under at the date of policy issue, when they purchase an international travel insurance policy.*

Please keep in mind that some existing medical conditions may require you to pay an additional cost for them to be included under your cover. You have the choice to either pay for this additional cost or not. If you choose to pay, the condition will be added to your policy and shown on your Certificate of Insurance. If you choose not to pay, that condition will not be covered.

If your health changes after purchasing your policy but before you travel, you will need to contact Fast Cover for a medical re-screening. This process may adjust your premium and will determine whether your condition can continue to be covered.

Cover for existing medical conditions

If you have any existing medical conditions, you may be able to apply to include cover for them. Our simple medical screening process can be completed online or over the phone to help you find out if your condition can be covered.

Select who needs cover

Once you've added all travellers, to your policy, you can select those who wish to add cover for any existing medical conditions.

Take a medical screening

Answer a few questions online or over the phone about your health history. This helps us determine if your condition can be covered.

Choose to add cover

We'll let you know if we can provide cover for any existing medical conditions. You can then choose to add it to your policy.

When choosing the best Standard Saver travel insurance policy, think about how much cover you actually need and how that fits your travel budget.

The Standard Saver option might suit travellers who want more than basic medical cover but don’t need every benefit found in a Comprehensive policy.

At Fast Cover, the Standard Saver policy includes benefits such as:

  • Unlimited Overseas Emergency Medical Expenses

  • Unlimited Emergency Medical Evacuation and Repatriation

  • Trip Cancellation Expenses

  • Trip Disruption Expenses

  • Passports, Credit Cards & Credit Card Fraud

If you’re comparing options, start by looking at what the policy includes, from emergency medical expenses and cancellation benefits to passport and disruption cover. Understanding the range and limit of benefits will help you decide whether a standard travel insurance policy is the most suitable option for your trip.

The Standard Saver policy sits between Fast Cover’s Basics and Comprehensive options, offering more inclusions than Basics, at a lower cost than Comprehensive. It’s designed for travellers who want balanced protection without paying for cover they may not need.

This level of cover may suit travellers who want protection for more than just overseas medical expense. It includes benefits for Trip Cancellation Expenses, Luggage and Personal Effects, and Trip Disruption Expenses, which aren’t available under our Basics policy.

If you’re planning a huge trip where you might need unlimited cover for Trip Cancellation Expenses or want to be covered for Accidental Death, Permanent Disability or Loss of Income, you may want to look at the added benefits available under the Comprehensive policy. Comparing both helps ensure you select the right level of cover for your travel plans.

Always read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) before purchasing. These documents explain what’s included, limits, exclusions, and who each level of cover is designed for, helping you choose the option that fits your circumstances.

Most overseas trips require paying deposits or upfront costs for flights, accommodation, or tours. If you become unexpectedly ill or injured and must cancel your plans, you could lose a significant amount of money.

Consider if your standard travel insurance can provide cover for trip cancellation expenses as this can help to prevent you or your loved ones from having to absorb the full financial loss yourself.

If you need to cancel your trip before departure due to an existing medical condition, you could face significant out-of-pocket expenses.

You may wish to check if you need to complete a medical screening and whether your standard saver travel insurance policy can provide cover for trip cancellation expenses if you need to cancel your trip due to your existing medical conditions. This ensures you know exactly what you’re covered for before you travel.

Becoming sick or injured while travelling overseas can be both stressful and expensive. In destinations such as the United States or parts of Europe, hospital and medical costs can quickly reach tens of thousands of dollars.

Consider if your standard travel insurance policy includes cover for overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, and emergency medical evacuation and repatriation if you need to return home under medical supervision.

These benefits are particularly important for destinations with high healthcare costs, providing essential support during unexpected medical emergencies.

Lost or stolen luggage and quickly disrupt your trip. Consider if your standard policy includes cover for luggage and personal effects, including clothing, phones, and laptops.

Unforeseen events such as natural disasters and strikes could change your travel plans or leave you stranded.

The Trip Disruption Expenses benefit available under the Standard Saver travel insurance policy may help with the reasonable cost of additional meals, accommodation, or alternative transport if your travel is disrupted by reasons covered under your policy.*

Consider if your standard travel insurance provides cover for trip disruption expenses.

This is a summary only and does not cover all situations. Any advice is general only and does not consider your personal circumstances. Read the PDS and TMD to determine whether travel insurance is right for you before buying.

What if you get sick or injured overseas and require medical assistance? Medical costs overseas can be much higher than at home, and even a short hospital stay may become expensive.

Fast Cover’s Standard Saver travel insurance is designed to include unlimited cover for overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, as well as unlimited emergency medical evacuation and repatriation if you need to be transported to another location or returned to Australia under medical supervision.

When comparing standard travel insurance policies, you may wish to check the medical benefits and benefit limits available to help you decide which standard travel insurance is the best option for you.

If an unexpected event forces you to cancel your trip, the costs can add up quickly, especially if you’ve already paid for flights, tours, or accommodation that aren’t refundable.

Fast Cover’s Standard Saver travel insurance includes cover for Trip Cancellation Expenses, which may help reimburse you for eligible expenses if your trip is cancelled due to a covered event such as an unexpected illness, injury or other covered event.

When reviewing policies, check the maximum cancellation benefit limit,  sub-limits and the types of events that qualify for reimbursement. Understanding these details can make it easier to compare standard travel insurance policies and find one that aligns with your budget and travel commitments.

Some standard travel insurance policies offer cover for extended or multi-destination travel, so you’re covered under a single policy for the duration of your journey.

With Fast Cover, you can include multiple destinations under a single trip policy for up to 24 months, allowing you to move between countries without buying separate policies. Reviewing how long your cover lasts and how it applies across destinations helps ensure your insurance matches the full length and scope of your trip.

When comparing standard travel insurance options, check how long your cover lasts, whether it includes all your destinations, and whether you can extend it mid-trip if your plans change.

Natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions can disrupt travel plans with little notice, leaving travellers stranded or facing unexpected costs. If you're heading to a region where these risks are more common, it’s essential to check whether your policy includes trip disruption cover for such events.

Fast Cover’s Standard Saver travel insurance may help with reasonable additional costs, such as alternative accommodation and transport, when your trip is interrupted due to a covered event.*

Looking closely at how a standard travel insurance policy treats natural disasters can give you a clearer picture of whether it meets the needs of your trip.

Existing medical conditions often hold travellers back from going on a trip. Consider if your standard travel insurance policy can provide cover for your existing medical condition.

Fast Cover’s Standard Saver policy is available to provide cover for a range of existing medical conditions, helping you stay covered on your holiday. Simply complete a medical screening online or over the phone to determine if cover is available for your condition. Once approved, your existing medical condition will be included in your policy.*

The type of activities you plan on doing during your trip can have impact on the level of cover you need. Some travellers are simply sightseeing or relaxing, while others might be heading overseas for adventures like quad biking or hiking above 3000 meters, or even riding a motorcycle.

With Fast Cover’s Standard Saver travel insurance policy, you can customise your policy with optional extras for an additional premium to provide cover for a wide range of activities and adventures.

When comparing standard travel insurance, check whether the policy allows you to add optional cover for the types of activities and adventure you plan to do.

This is a summary only and does not cover all considerations. Any advice is general only and does not consider your personal circumstances. Read the PDS and TMD before buying.

Serious accidents can happen during your holiday. Standard Saver travel insurance policy does not provide cover for Accidental Death, Permanent Disability, and Loss of Income benefits.

If you wish to be covered for this, you can consider upgrading your policy to Comprehensive policy. These benefits can provide a lump sum amount of money to you or your estate if a covered accident results in death or a permanent disability while overseas.*

These benefits may help ease the financial strain that serious incidents may cause, providing additional support to your loved ones or helping you adjust after a life changing event.*

Travel delays are a common part of international travel and can occur for many unexpected reasons, from severe weather to civil protests.

If you incur additional expenses because of a travel delay, our Standard Saver policy does not reimburse you for the additional reasonable meals and accommodation during the delay.

If you wish to have cover under the Travel Delay Expenses benefit, you may want to consider upgrading your policy to Comprehensive policy. Under the Comprehensive travel insurance policy, cover may be available for up to $200 per traveller (excluding dependants) for every 24-hour period you are delayed, provided the delay lasts at least six hours and meets the policy’s conditions.*

If you’re injured while breaking the law overseas, your Standard Saver travel insurance is unlikely to provide cover for that incident. This includes situations such as riding a motorcycle without a helmet, driving without a valid licence, or operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Local laws vary between countries, what’s legal in Australia might not be overseas. For example, engaging in illegal drug use or carrying prohibited substances could lead to criminal charges and your claim being declined. Always check local laws before travelling, as travel insurance does not cover illegal activities.

Not every activity is automatically included in your Standard Saver travel insurance policy. If you plan to go quad biking in Bali, or riding a motorcycle in Vietnam, you need to make sure you have the right optional extras included.

For example, if you choose not to add the Motorcycle Pack to your Standard Saver policy, an accident while riding or being a passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter could leave you responsible for all medical expenses.

It is important to think about what activities you will be participating in so that you have the right cover for the activities you plan to do on your trips throughout the year.

Luggage and personal effects cover is designed to help if your belongings are lost, stolen or accidentally damaged, but you must take reasonable care to protect and secure your luggage and personal items at all times.

If you leave your phone, laptop, or wallet unattended on a café table while stepping away, or if you leave your bag on the beach while swimming, any theft or loss may not be covered. Similarly, if your accommodation provides a safe and you choose not to use it, your claim may be affected if valuables are stolen from your room.

Make sure you always keep your belongings with you or keep them in a secure location or take reasonable measures to always secure them and at all places.

There are exclusions that may apply for regular or routine check-ups, elective treatments or filling regular prescriptions as they are not considered medical emergencies.

If you require regular medication, bring enough of what you’ll need for your holiday overseas before you leave Australia. If you choose to have an elective or cosmetic procedure overseas, your travel insurance policy will not cover those expenses.

Cover applies only to unexpected illnesses or injuries that occur while travelling.*

Should the Australian Government release a warning on official government Smartraveller website that certain areas overseas are no longer safe to travel to and you still choose to travel there anyway, there may be exclusions that will apply such as if you do not follow advice in the mass media where a travel advisory risk rating of Do Not Travel was issued after policy purchase.

Note: We are unable to offer travel insurance to international destinations that have a ‘Do Not Travel’ warning on official government Smartraveller website. To check which countries we may cover, enter your destination country in the quote box on our website.

Known events are usually serious situations, from natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, to disease outbreaks, which can affect your holiday plans and also the cover on your overseas travel insurance policy.

If you buy your Standard Saver travel insurance after an event is a known event, the cover on your policy may be affected. You should check for any Travel Alerts that may have been issued for your overseas travel destination as well as information on the official government Smartraveller website so you know where you stand with regards to the cover that you will have on your international travel insurance policy.

We understand that not every trip goes exactly as planned, and sometimes things just don’t live up to expectations. Maybe the weather in Bali was not as sunny as you hoped, the crowds in Europe made sightseeing a little harder, or your hotel in Thailand didn’t quite match the photos online.

While these situations can be frustrating, they’re not considered insurable events, which means your travel insurance policy is not able to cover them. Travel insurance is designed to step in when unexpected events cause financial loss, not when a trip is less enjoyable than you imagined.
