Medical emergencies can happen while riding a motorcycle or being a passenger during your overseas trip. Fast Cover’s Aussie based team of experts are available to provide 24/7 support for overseas medical emergencies, depending on your situation and location.*

Our Emergency Assistance team may be able to help arrange experienced medical support services in the event of unexpected circumstances that arise from you riding or being a passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter overseas.*

Injuries resulting from motorcycle, moped and scooter accidents can happen while travelling overseas, especially in popular scooter destinations like BaliThailand and Vietnam. Fast Cover’s international policies may be able to help with reasonable overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses arising from an unexpected injury sustained while riding or travelling as a passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter, provided those expenses have not been reimbursed from another source.*

Please note there is no cover for medical or ancillary expenses incurred in Australia even if they are the result of injuries sustained while overseas.

Access to emergency medical care could make a huge difference if you become seriously injured or sick while riding or travelling on a motorcycle, moped or scooter overseas.

Fast Cover may be able to provide cover for your reasonable additional accommodation and travel expenses, medical transfer, evacuation or repatriation if you must be transported to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment or be brought back to Australia with appropriate medical supervision. The medical transfer, evacuation or repatriation must first be approved by Fast Cover.*

Cancelled trips aren’t just disappointing, they can be expensive too. If you need to unexpectedly cancel your trip, our Trip Cancellation Expenses benefit may help protect the non-refundable trip bookings you’ve already paid for including flights, accommodation and tours including motorcycle tours in circumstances explained in your policy.*

At Fast Cover, you can buy travel insurance for your holiday up to 12 months prior to your departure date, including before you've booked a motorcycle tour and any accommodation.* Please note cancellation cover is not available with our Basics policy.

Natural disasters and severe weather could throw your motorcycle trip off track. Fast Cover may be able to help if your scheduled or connecting transport is cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted due to severe weather or a natural disaster that begun after we issued the Certificate of Insurance.

Under the Trip Disruption Expenses benefit, cover may be available for reasonable additional travel, accommodation and meal expenses incurred while you are still travelling, provided you cannot recover those costs from another source.*

While it’s not something we would want to think about, serious accidents can happen on motorcycles, mopeds and scooters overseas. Fast Cover’s Accidental Death benefit can provide a lump sum payment to your estate if you are injured while riding or being a passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter during your overseas trip and you pass away because of that injury within 12 months of the injury date.*

The Accidental Death benefit is available under our Comprehensive, Snow Sports Plus, Domestic Plus and Frequent Traveller Saver policies. Please note, age and benefit limits apply per policy type, read the PDS for full terms and conditions. Please note Accidental Death cover is not available under the Standard Saver or Basics policies.

Travellers who add the Motorcycle Pack might book a motorcycle tour to explore their destination. Under our PDS a tour is a special event so if your scheduled transport is cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted during your overseas trip and that means you would not arrive to your tour on time, Fast Cover may provide cover for the reasonable additional travel expenses to help you to get to your special event on time such as a guided group motorcycle tour, so you don’t miss the moments that matter.*

If your scheduled transport is cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted, our travel insurance may be able to provide cover of up to $5,000 for you to book an alternative flight or other transport to help you make it to your special event on time.*

Special events include a pre-booked, pre-paid and pre-arranged:

  • Wedding

  • Funeral

  • Conference

  • Concert

  • Sporting event

Becoming unexpectedly sick or injured could force you to cancel your motorcycle trip. Rescheduling a cancelled holiday and dealing with lost deposits and non-refundable motorcycling tours, flights and accommodation can become stressful and expensive. Consider if your travel insurance can provide cover for trip cancellation expenses.

If you need to cancel your motorcycling holiday due to an existing medical condition, you could be left out of pocket for non-refundable pre-paid trip bookings. You may wish to check if your travel insurance can provide cover for trip cancellation expenses if you need to cancel your motorcycle trip due to your existing medical condition.

If you have any existing medical conditions, you may be able to apply to include cover for them during your trip. Fast Cover’s simple medical screening process can be completed online or over the phone to help you find out if your existing medical or pregnancy condition can be covered.

Consider whether your travel insurance can provide cover if you become sick or injured while being a rider or passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter overseas and incur emergency medical and hospital expenses.

This could include treatment for fractures, dislocations, cuts, infections or other unexpected injuries sustained while travelling on a motorcycle, moped or scooter overseas. You may also wish to check whether your policy can provide cover for overseas emergency medical evacuation or repatriation if you require urgent medical transport, particularly if you’ll be visiting remote destinations or challenging motorcycle routes.

If you experience a medical emergency while travelling on a motorcycle, moped or scooter overseas, consider whether your travel insurance policy includes access to 24/7 emergency medical assistance services.

Depending on your situation and location, emergency assistance teams may be able to help arrange medical treatment, hospital admissions, emergency transport or communication support during an overseas medical emergency.

While rare, serious accidents resulting in death can happen while travelling on a motorcycle, moped or scooter overseas. Consider whether your travel insurance policy includes benefits for accidental death if you suffer a serious injury resulting in death as a result of riding or being a passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter during your overseas trip.

If your scheduled transport to your motorcycling tour is cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted you could risk spending thousands of dollars on additional transport to make it to your tour on time. Worse yet, you could miss out on special events you’ve already booked and paid for. Consider if your travel insurance can provide cover for special event transport expenses.

This is a summary only and does not cover all situations. Any advice is general only and does not consider your personal circumstances. Read the PDS and TMD to determine whether travel insurance is right for you before buying.

The best travel insurance for a motorcycle trip isn’t always the cheapest policy available; it’s the policy that provides a suitable level of cover for your trip, destination and planned activities.

Fast Cover offers a range of travel insurance policies which travellers can add the Motorcycle Pack to. For example, our Comprehensive, Standard Saver, Basics, Snow Sports Plus, and Frequent Traveller Saver policies all allow you to add on the Motorcycle Pack, but the policies vary in coverage and benefit limits available.

When comparing policies, always read the PDS, review what benefits are included, and check the applicable benefit limits, exclusions and conditions. Understanding the scope of cover can help you decide which policy may be right for your travel plans.

Getting sick or injured while riding or being a passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter overseas can be stressful and costly. Medical treatment, hospital stays and emergency transport overseas can quickly result in significant out of pocket expenses in some countries.

Fast Cover’s eligible international travel insurance policies can provide unlimited cover for:

  • overseas 24/7 emergency medical assistance

  • overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, and

  • overseas emergency medical evacuation and repatriation

in circumstances covered under the policy.*

When comparing travel insurance for motorcycle trips, you may wish to consider whether the policy include similar medical benefits.

Have you booked flights, tours or accommodation for your motorcycle trip?

You may wish to consider whether your travel insurance policy includes cancellation and disruption benefits in case your travel plans are unexpectedly impacted by unforeseen circumstances, such as an unexpected illness, injury or other covered events before or during your trip.

The type of activities you plan on doing during your trip can impact the level of cover you need. Some travellers are simply sightseeing or exploring local towns by scooter, while others might be adding adventure activities like quad biking, hiking at high altitudes or tandem skydiving.

When comparing policies, check if they include cover for these activities or allow you to add optional extras to provide cover for these activities. Depending on the policy you choose with Fast Cover, you may be able to add optional extras like the Adventure Pack for an additional premium to provide cover for a wide range of adventure activities. It’s important to choose a policy which allows you to add cover for all the activities you plan to do.

This is a summary only and does not cover all considerations. Any advice is general only and does not consider your personal circumstances. Read the PDS and TMD before buying.

If you’re injured in an accident while, for example, riding a scooter in Bali, and you didn’t add the Motorcycle Pack to your eligible travel insurance policy, you may be responsible for paying your overseas medical and hospital expenses because you did not choose to include cover for that under your policy.

It is important to think about what activities you will be participating in so that you have the right cover for the activities you plan to do on your trip.

The Motorcycle Pack is available at an additional premium as an optional cover for Aussie travellers aged 74 and under (at the date of policy issue) when they purchase a Comprehensive, Standard Saver, Basics, Snow Sports Plus, or Frequent Traveller Saver policy. Travellers aged 75 and over at the date of policy issue are not eligible for the Motorcycle Pack.

Failing to meet the licencing requirements relevant to you riding or being a passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter will affect the cover on your policy. You must comply with the restrictions of your Australian license, as well as the local laws.

There is no cover if you are the rider in control of a motorcycle, moped or scooter with an engine capacity:

  • of 125cc or less and do not hold both a current Australian Drivers Licence (Provisional or higher) (regardless of the local laws) and a licence valid for the country that you are riding in

  • greater than 125cc and do not hold both a current Australian Motorcycle Licence (Provisional or higher) valid for the same class of motorcycle, moped or scooter (regardless of the local laws) and a licence valid for the country that you are riding in.

There is no cover if you are the passenger on a motorcycle, moped or scooter and the person in control does not hold a current licence (Provisional or higher) valid for the same class of motorcycle, moped or scooter being ridden, or their licence is not valid for the country that you are in.

Our policy does not provide cover for damage to, or theft of, the motorcycle, moped or scooter itself. This applies whether the vehicle is owned or hired. If you are hiring a motorcycle, moped or scooter, check with the rental company about their own insurance or damage waiver options.

The Motorcycle Pack does not provide cover if the claim or loss is for:

  • Permanent disability under Benefit 10

  • Loss of income under Benefit 11

  • Personal liability under Benefit 18

  • Rental vehicle excess under Benefit 19

If you become injured while breaking the law, there are various conditions and exclusions that may apply which means you may not be covered. For example, if you ride a motorcycle, moped or scooter without wearing the required safety gear such as a crash helmet or while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The Motorcycle Pack does not provide cover for riding off road. Cover is only available when riding on either sealed or unsealed public roads. There is also no cover for motocross, jumping, racing or competition of any sort.

There is no cover under the Benefit 14: Luggage & Personal Effects for items left with a motorcycle, moped or scooter, even in a locked storage compartment. Please note there is also no cover for hired items such as a hired helmet or safety gear.

Should the Australian Government release a warning on official government Smartraveller website that certain areas overseas are no longer safe to travel to and you still choose to travel there anyway, there may be exclusions that will apply such as if you do not follow advice in the mass media where a travel advisory risk rating of Do Not Travel was issued after policy purchase.

Note: We are unable to offer travel insurance to international destinations that have a Do Not Travel warning on official government Smartraveller website. To check which countries we may cover, enter your destination country in the quote box on our website.

Perhaps the traffic was bad, you didn’t enjoy your motorcycle tour, or the route didn’t live up to the expectation. Whatever the reason you’re unhappy with how your motorcycle trip has shaped up, your travel insurance policy is not intended to compensate you because you didn’t enjoy your time there.
