What does Fast Cover’s Single travel insurance policy cover?
Fast Cover’s Single travel insurance provides a range of benefits designed to help protect solo travellers from many unforeseen events that can occur before or during your trip, whether you’re heading overseas or travelling within Australia. While the benefits available depend on the level of cover you choose, here are examples of benefits that may be included in a Single travel insurance policy.
This is a summary only. Terms, conditions, exclusions and limits apply. Not all benefits apply to all policies. Read the PDS and TMD before buying.
Cancelled holidays can be both disappointing and expensive, especially if you have paid for flights, accommodation, or tours. If you become unexpectedly ill, injured, or experience another covered event under your policy that forces you to cancel your trip, Fast Cover’s Trip Cancellation Expenses benefit may reimburse the non-refundable costs you’ve already paid.*
At Fast Cover, you can buy Single travel insurance up to 12 months before your departure date, allowing you to cover pre-paid trip costs even before you book your flights or accommodation.
Cover for missing, lost or accidentally damaged luggage and personal items such as laptops, cameras, and phones is automatically included with all Fast Cover policies except our Basics policy, giving solo travellers who pack light or travel on a tighter budget the option to add this cover if they need it.*
Benefit limits and sub-limits apply to how much can be claimed for each item, and conditions set out when and how cover applies. For full details, it’s important to read the PDS to understand your entitlements and any exclusions that may apply.
Travel delays can happen for many reasons. If your pre-booked transport is cancelled and reschedules, or delayed due to an event covered by your policy, Fast Cover’s Travel Delay Expenses benefit is available to reimburse you for the reasonable cost of extra meals and accommodation.*
This benefit can provide cover of up to $200 for each traveller (excluding dependants) for each 24-hour period if your scheduled transport is delayed for at least 6 hours from the time your transport was scheduled to depart, due to circumstances outside your control.*
With Fast Cover’s Single travel insurance for overseas trips, you’ll have access to our Australian-based Emergency Assistance team, available 24/7.*
Depending on your situation, Fast Cover’s Emergency Medical Assistance team may be able to assist you during unexpected medical emergencies overseas by:
Locating and arranging overseas medical treatment or hospital admission,
Coordinating approved medical evacuation or repatriation, and
Providing guidance on accessing local medical support services.*
Medical care overseas can be costly and daunting, especially for solo travellers. Fast Cover’s Single travel insurance is designed to help with the financial impact of unexpected illness or injury while overseas.
Fast Cover may be able to provide cover for overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses if you become unexpectedly ill or injured while on your trip. This may include reasonable medical treatment, hospitalisation costs, or related medical expenses covered under your policy that you incur during your trip and are not reimbursed elsewhere.*
If you experience a serious medical emergency while travelling, you might need to be medically transported or evacuated to the nearest hospital for emergency medical treatment or even be repatriated back to Australia for treatment with appropriate medical supervision.*
Our Single travel insurance policies for international travel are available to provide solo travellers with cover for the reasonable additional accommodation and travel expenses, cost of medical transfer, evacuation or repatriation when these services are approved under your policy. All medical evacuations and repatriations must be arranged and approved by Fast Cover before they take place.*

Does Single travel insurance cover existing medical conditions?
Having an existing medical condition doesn’t mean you can’t get travel insurance. With Fast Cover, you may be able to get Single travel insurance that includes cover for your or your dependants’ existing medical condition under applicable policy benefits.
To find out if we can provide cover for your condition, you’ll need to complete a medical screening during your quote journey where you tell us about:
Any medical or pregnancy conditions you have or have had during the period of 3 years prior to your policy issue date, and
Any new medical or pregnancy conditions that develop, or changes to your health, after your policy issue date and before you depart on your trip.
It’s important that you declare all relevant medical or pregnancy conditions when you apply for a quote. If your condition is approved through the medical screening process, it will be listed on your Certificate of Insurance and will then be included under your cover. Any relevant medical or pregnancy condition that is not declared or not listed on your Certificate of Insurance will not be covered.
Please keep in mind that some existing medical conditions may require you to pay an additional cost for them to be included under your cover. You have the choice to either pay for this additional cost or not. If you choose to pay, the condition will be added to your policy and shown on your Certificate of Insurance. If you choose not to pay, that condition will not be covered.
If your health changes after purchasing your policy but before you travel, you will need to contact Fast Cover for a medical re-screening. This process may adjust your premium and will determine whether your condition can continue to be covered

Do I need travel insurance for solo travel?
Travelling solo can be exciting, whether it’s an overseas holiday, a work trip, or visiting friends and family abroad. But even with the best plans, things don’t always go smoothly. Fast Cover’s Single travel insurance is designed to help solo travellers handle many of those unexpected bumps in the road, from medical emergencies to lost bags or travel delays, so you can focus on making the most of your trip.
Here are some situations to consider when deciding if you need travel insurance for solo travel:
Most trips require paying deposits or upfront costs for flights, accommodation, or tours. If you become unexpectedly ill or injured and need to cancel your plans, you could lose a significant amount of money if you’re travelling solo and not splitting the cost with anyone.
Travel insurance for solo travellers such as Fast Cover’s Single travel insurance can provide cover for trip cancellation expenses, helping to reimburse non-refundable pre-paid costs so you don’t have to absorb the financial loss yourself.*
One of the biggest concerns for solo travellers and solo parents travelling with children is what would happen if they became unexpectedly ill or injured overseas.
Fast Cover’s Single international travel insurance policies include cover for overseas medical and hospital expenses helping solo travellers and individual parents travelling children cover these costs overseas.*
Even with careful planning, travel can be unpredictable. Flights can be delayed, connections missed, or plans changed by severe weather. Those moments can quickly add unexpected costs for extra nights of accommodation, last-minute meals, or rebooked transport, cutting into your budget.
With Single travel insurance, you may be covered for some of the reasonable additional expenses that come from travel delays and trip disruptions, depending on your circumstances and what’s covered under your policy.*
Lost, stolen or damaged luggage and personal items can create ongoing hassles during your solo adventure. Replacing essentials like your laptop, camera, or travel gear can be costly.
Cover for luggage and personal items is automatically included with all Fast Cover policies except our Basics policy, giving solo explorers travelling light or on a budget the option to include this cover if they need it.*
Travelling with children or dependants can make a trip even more special, but it can also mean a few extra details to keep track of. From bookings to bags and travel insurance policies, there’s a lot to manage before you even leave home.
With Fast Cover, you can include up to ten dependants on your Single travel insurance policy with benefit limits applying to the combined total of all claims made by the travellers (including dependants) listed on the Certificate of Insurance. It keeps things simple with one policy, shared trip details, and clear cover for everyone listed so you can focus on enjoying your trip.

What is the best travel insurance for solo travellers?
The best travel insurance for solo travellers is the one that matches your travel plans, provides the level of cover you need, and includes benefits and limits suited to your circumstances. Here are some important factors to consider when comparing travel insurance options for your solo trip and deciding which level of cover is right for you:
The right travel insurance policy for your solo trip should match your destination, trip type, and budget. Fast Cover offers several levels of cover so you can choose what fits your journey best, from Basics with medical-only protection to Comprehensive cover that includes cancellations, luggage and more.
When comparing options, check what’s included and what the benefit limits are for each policy. For example, Fast Cover’s Single travel insurance can cover solo travellers, as well as an adult travelling with dependants. However, limits apply to the combined total of all claims made by all travellers. Understanding the scope of cover can help you find the best travel insurance for your needs.
Solo trips don’t always follow a fixed plan. You might decide to extend your stay, visit another country, or change your return date. When comparing policies, check whether you can extend or adjust your cover mid-trip without the cost or hassle of starting a new policy each time your itinerary changes.
Fast Cover gives you flexibility to extend your policy for up to 24 months or adjust your departure date before you leave Australia. You can also choose to have cover by region instead of listing every individual country, perfect for multi-country trips, solo backpacking adventures, or cruises with multiple stops. Fast Cover offers cover for six regions including Worldwide, Europe, Asia, South Pacific, New Zealand and Domestic.*
The type of activities you plan on doing during your trip can impact the level of cover you need. Some travellers are simply sightseeing or relaxing, while others might be heading overseas for adventure like quad biking, hiking at high altitudes, or riding a motorcycle.
When comparing policies, check if they include cover for these activities or allow you to add optional extras to provide cover for these activities. Depending on the policy you choose with Fast Cover, you may be able to add optional extras for an additional premium to provide cover for a wide range of activities and adventures.
Sometimes, even the best-planned trip can take an unexpected turn. Natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions can disrupt travel plans with little notice, leaving travellers stranded, rerouted, and facing unexpected costs for additional travel and accommodation.
Understanding how a policy responds to these situations can help ensure you’re choosing the right insurance for your trip, particularly if you’re travelling to an area with active seismic or volcanic activity.
Depending on the policy you choose, Fast Cover may be able to help with reasonable additional expenses for accommodation, meals and transport, when your trip delayed or disrupted due to natural disaster in circumstances covered under your policy.*
If you’re a single adult travelling with dependants such as children or grandchildren, adding them to your travel insurance policy makes managing your trip easier and ensures everyone on the policy has clear, consistent cover.
When comparing policies, check if they allow you to add dependants, and confirm how benefit limits apply per person. Fast Cover’s Single travel insurance allows you to include up to ten dependants on your policy although benefit limits apply to the combined total of all claims made by the travellers.*
Getting sick or injured while travelling can be stressful and costly especially when you’re travelling solo. When comparing travel insurance for solo travellers, look at the medical benefits included, their limits, and whether 24/7 emergency medical assistance is included. Choosing a policy that offers reliable medical support when you need it most can save you both money and stress during your trip.
All Fast Cover’s international Single travel insurance option provides unlimited cover for:
overseas 24/7 emergency medical assistance
overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses
overseas emergency medical evacuation and repatriation
in circumstances covered under the policy.*

What is not covered by our single travel insurance policy for solo travellers?
When comparing travel insurance, it’s just as important to know what isn’t covered as it is to know what is covered. Like all insurance products, Fast Cover’s Single policy has terms, conditions, exclusions, limits and sub-limits that apply that you need to be aware of and consider before buying travel insurance.
These are examples only. Read the PDS and TMD before buying. Claims are assessed individually in accordance with your policy, PDS and Certificate of Insurance.
If you’re injured while breaking the law overseas, your Single travel insurance policy is unlikely to cover the incident. This includes scenarios such as riding a motorcycle without wearing a helmet, driving without the proper licence, or operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Local laws vary significantly between countries and what may be legal in Australia could be prohibited elsewhere so you should always check local regulations before you travel. For example, in some destinations even riding a scooter without the correct international licence is illegal and could leave you without cover if an accident occurs. Engaging in illegal drug use or carrying prohibited substances could also result in both criminal charges overseas and the denial of any related insurance claim.
If you’re injured in an accident while, for example, riding a motorcycle, and you didn’t add the Motorcycle Pack to your Single travel insurance policy, you may be responsible for paying your overseas medical and hospital expenses because you did not choose to include cover for that under your policy.
It is important to think about what activities you will be participating in so that you have the right cover for the activities you plan to do overseas.
If your belongings are stolen while unattended or unsupervised, you may not be able to claim for the stolen item. For example, if you leave your bag with your wallet and passport inside it on the beach while you go for a swim, this may be considered leaving your belongings unattended, in which case you may not be covered.
Make sure you keep your belongings with you at all times or keep them in a secure location and take reasonable measures to secure them at all times and at all places.
There are exclusions that may apply for regular or routine check-ups or filling regular prescriptions as they are not considered medical emergencies. If you require regular medication, bring enough of what you’ll need for your holiday overseas before you leave Australia.
Should the Australian Government release a warning on the government’s official Smartraveller website that certain areas overseas are no longer safe to travel to and you still choose to travel there anyway, there may be exclusions that will apply such as if you do not follow advice in the mass media where a travel advisory risk rating of Do Not Travel was issued after policy purchase.
Note: We are unable to offer travel insurance to international destinations that have a Do Not Travel warning on official government Smartraveller website. To check which countries we may cover, enter your destination country in the quote box on our website.
Known events are usually considered as serious situations from natural disasters like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, to disease outbreaks, which can affect your holiday plans and the cover on your travel insurance policy.
If you buy your travel insurance after an event is a known event, the cover on your policy may be affected. You should check for any Travel Alerts that may have been issued for your travel destination as well as information on the government’s official Smartraveller website so you know where you stand with regards to the cover that you will have on your travel insurance policy.
Perhaps the weather was bad, the tourist attractions were too crowded, or your accommodation didn’t live up to the pictures online. Whatever the reason you’re unhappy with how your solo trip has shaped up, your travel insurance policy is not intended to compensate you because you didn’t enjoy your holiday.
As each individual’s circumstances are different, we will assess each claim on a case by case basis and in accordance with your specific circumstances, policy terms and Certificate of Insurance.
